Wedding trends from the Head of AlchemyLive
Ellie Barnard, Head of Event specialists AlchemyLive, is getting married (congratulations!). While Ellie does her planning, we sneakily took the opportunity to ask her what 5 major wedding trends she sees coming this year.

The unifying theme…
“Weddings in 2016 are traditional with a twist. Everyone wants their day to be both special and a little bit different, but nobody wants to compromise on all the charm that comes with a traditional ceremony.”
The colour scheme…
“I’ve seen so much glitz and glamour, and lots of metallic colour schemes. Gold cakes and dresses with sequins have been popular, as have reds and blacks, which help set-off the gold. In terms of lighting, I’ve seen lit baubles used as an alternative to candles. The effect is lovely in a darkened room.”
The dress…
“More and more brides choose to defy expectations and not wear the traditional white dress. I’ve seen prints, dip-dye, and embroidery becoming more common. Other staples have changed too: women have started to marry later and bridesmaids are able to exercise more choice in terms of what they wear. This year we’ll see lots of bridesmaids in different dresses of the same colour or theme.”
The food…
“Canapés and finger foods have gone out of favour – nobody wants to have to chase down staff as they leave the kitchen. Tasting stations are a convenient and fun way to mix it up while still serving great food. Hiring out popular food trucks is another one – I’ve seen ice-cream trucks as well as a late-night fish and chips van, to name just a couple.”
The theme…
People always want to put on a show and a themed wedding is definitely one way to do it. Sets from couples’ favourite films or a style from a particular decade is a trend that’s going to stay popular; the 1920s is a classic example. Even bouquets are being jazzed up. Some are becoming wilder and less structured, while others contain no flowers at all!
